Education

For Parents
As parents of a child with CP, we have learned a great deal about the education process. Our experience has shown that devoting the necessary time to your child's Individualized Education Plan (IEP) is critical to your child's success in the school system. Very often, you will find that educators will welcome your input and help regarding your child's needs. You know your child best and your knowledge and experience are invaluable resources for your child's educational team. We are in the midst of gathering a variety of resources for you. Until we have these resources listed here, please check out our web links to find information that will help you with your child's educational plan.

For Teachers and Aides
Inclusion and what it means to most school systems varies from state to state, district to district. Many teachers are faced with having a child with special needs in their classroom and are given little or no information to guide them through the inclusion process.

We hope to have a whole segment in this site dedicated to academicians. For now, we have two great sites that contain invaluable information:

"A Teacher's Guide to Including Students with Disabilities" by Michael F. Giangreco, a Research Assistant Professor, The University of Vermont, College of Education and Social Services lists 10 great tips. It may be found at the following address:

The following site lists a variety of texts and videos covering inclusion:
